2011-11-06: Song of the Week!

A blog post appears! Maaaaaybe I pre-wrote this a bit. (or a lot.) By this point, I should be well into my NaNoWriMo novel, and by the time I emerge from that particular experience, I should have

Since her appearance on the popular music scene after winning the first iteration of the American Idol competition almost a decade ago in 2002, Kelly Clarkson has consistently remained one of my favorite vocalists. From her songs about getting away from home, to her angry break-up songs.

Clarkson's latest album, Stronger, follows my particular trend of a severe appreciation for female vocalists singing about break-ups and becoming stronger. I swear it's because it makes for excellent music, and not because I'm ridiculous and morbid.

That having been said, totally love this week's song "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" -- both because it's a very danceable song (with rock roots), and because the central theme, which is essentially that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" strikes a chord that I have been needing over the last month or so.

Even though the song is essentially another breakup song (Hey Kelly, write about what you know, amirite?) -- it has helped me frame some bad times of the last month, including some concerns with my medications, a fall, a fight with the couch, and a trip to the neurologist.)

I just have to remember that whever doesn't kill me will make me stronger, and smarter.
